Charlap Hyman & Herrero’s collaboration with Patterson Flynn spans an evolving body of work—expressive, shaped abaca rugs alongside richly layered hand-knotted designs. Drawing from a wide range of references—from Calder’s simplified animal forms to surrealist explorations of scale—the collections translate familiar motifs into something unexpected. In abaca, the fiber’s flexibility allows for sculptural shapes and nuanced texture, while the 21 collection introduces a more atmospheric approach in wool and silk. Together, the collections form a kind of cabinet of curiosities—an expanding world of rugs that move between the graphic and the surreal, the structured and the expressive, always grounded in material and craft.
