Striking a balance between primitive and contemporary, Zuni’s geometric pattern is inspired by an ancient Pueblo clay vessel in the Museum of Natural History’s permanent collection. A detailed Greek key motif is arranged in rows, framed with a border that has a hand-sketched feel. The rug is hand-tufted, with a chunky felted cut pile wool used for the ivory ground. A finer recessed dark brown wool loop forms the linework, which mimics the irregular sketched look of the pottery.
