With its tongue-in-cheek riff on scale, Sueño is inspired by 18th and 19th century paintings of prized sheep, in which the artist often elongates and exaggerates the shape of the animal to indicate its value. Part of Charlap Hyman & Herrero’s collection for Patterson Flynn, Sueño plays up the curly texture of the sheep’s wool, both in spiral linework in black on a natural ground, as well as in the weave of the abaca fiber, which is hand-coiled in swirls.
